trying to add voter but birthdate field prevents it

What format is necessary for birthdate?
I have a voter that is committed to a candidate. I think I am supposed to "add voter"
Why the field "birthdate" needed? My voter registration card has "year of birth"
I will try that but if it works...advokit doesn't in this regard....so far

Advokit is designed to work with a database of voters that you load from a voter file using the import.pl script, prior to the start of your voter contact efforts. While you can add voters on the fly, I would not recommend doing this from scratch with Advokit. I'm sure there are better applications out there for building a voter database.
Advokit requires a birth date because a number of displays show the voter's age (relative to today or relative to the election date), and searching and filtering are both able to be done based on age.
When adding a voter, you can always just invent a birth date if you don't know it. The format required is MM/DD/YYYY. For example 12/31/1970.
